"The Divine Diva of the Culinary Cozy" Does It Again

She's been dubbed "the divine diva of the culinary cozy," and that she is. This is Diane Mott Davidson's 15th mystery starring generous, good hearted Goldy Schulz, the caterer whose sideline is solving crimes. For CRUNCH TIME Davidson who is a bit of a culinary expert herself created a recipe for Crunch Time Cookies (p. 452) - they're the yummiest - rich with bits of chocolate chips and Heath toffee bits. Happiness is nibbling on some of those while reading Goldy's latest adventure.

As Goldy said, "When I heard that Ernest McLeod had been killed, I should have picked up my knives and left." True - it would have been safer for her and easier for her husband, Tom, a sheriff's department investigator. It all began when she tried to help her good friend and fellow caterer, Yolanda Garcia.

Yolanda and her formidable although wheelchair bound Aunt Ferdinanda are homeless after an arsonist destroys their rental house. So, the pair find refuge in the home of private investigator Ernest McLeod where Yolanda prepares his meals in return for lodging. But not for long because his house is also burned and Ernest shot to death.

Goldy invites Yolanda, Aunt Ferdinanda and nine beagle puppies that Ernest had apparently rescued from a puppy mill to stay in her house simply, as she explains to keep them safe. But where is safety? Not at Goldy's house as it turns out - a break in soon follows and one more dead body. At this point it is literally CRUNCH TIME in order not to be next on the killer's list.

Of course, Davidson includes some delicious recipes - good reading plus good eating. What could be better?

- Enjoy!
