Suspense Filled Until the Last Word - The Raising
Poet/novelist Laura Kasischke has crafted a mesmerizing story that make the unthinkable believable, while at the same time challenging our knowledge of existence. This kind of haunting multi-layered tale deserves an extremely gifted narrator, which is exactly what was found in Renee Raudman.
The winner of a number of AudioFile Earphones Awards as well as Publishers Weekly Listen-Up Awards Raudman is equally at home on film television, radio and stage. She easily segues between voicing cartoons and reading Homer’s Odyssey. You’ll be captured by her voice performance of THE RAISING.
The unexpected death of a young woman is always a tragedy, especially so for those who knew her. Nicole Werner’s death in an auto accident was mourned by draping Godwin Honors Hall in black. She was young, beautiful, a straight A student beloved by her sorority sisters. Her boyfriend, Craig, was driving the car; he was not scratched. Some find this extremely suspicious, and Nicole’s sorority sisters blame him for her death.
Even though a year has now passed Craig continues to avoid these girls, while his roommate, Perry, who grew up with Nicole is still grieving. Others affected by Nicole’s death are trying to cope in different ways.
One would think that with the passage of this much time even a terrible loss such as this would no longer be the focus of so many hearts and minds. But that is not the case, especially since now the question is not so much how Nicole died but did she die?
THE RAISING is suspense filled until the last word is spoken.
