44 CHARLES STREET By Danielle Steel
Actor/teacher/editor/singer Arthur Morey came to audio book narration with a wealth of experience as is evidenced by his confident, composed readings. To date he’s been featured in numerous book recordings including the five Rabbit novels by John Updike. He’s much in demand - understandably so. Kudos to Brilliance for selecting him to narrate 44 CHARLES STREET. While the protagonist is a woman hearing the story told in Morley’s strong male voice enriched the experience for this listener.
Author Danielle Steel needs no introduction. She’s the bestselling author of 80 some books which are often filled with romance, hope, and life experiences. Such is the case with 44 CHARLES STREET as we meet Francesca Thayer, a Manhattan art dealer who has just split with Todd, her boyfriend and business partner. Boyfriend we might replace but a substitute business partner is tougher. In order to make payments on the Greenwich Village townhouse she loves Francesca decides to take in boarders.
As the rooms of her home fill we’re introduced to Eileen, a young teacher from L.A., Chris, a young single dad separated from his drug addled wife, and Marya, a well known chef and cookbook author who is a bit at sea following the death of her husband. As the boarders come to know each other strong bonds of friendship are developed and we’re privy to the unfolding of their lives.
In typical Steel fashion there are setbacks for each person and problems to surmount but eventually a second chance for all including Francesca.
