Rob Lowe's "Stories I Only Tell My Friends"
Yes, there are a few strands of gray in his hair but that certainly didn’t dim the enthusiasm of the crowds that overran his Dallas agent’s home for a book signing. There was still a bit of a Brat Pack gleam in his eyes, and cordiality to spare.
There is also honesty, warmth, and humor to spare in Rob Lowe’s autobiography STORIES I ONLY TELL MY FRIENDS. And, he has a great many stories to tell from fame at the tender age of 15 to watching a movie from the foot of Cary Grant’s bed when he was dating Grant’s daughter, Jennifer.
That was surely heady stuff for a boy from Dayton, Ohio, who was wounded by his parents’ bitter divorce and wound up in Malibu in the mid seventies where neighbors were Sheens and Penns. It was from there that he began to concentrate on seeking an acting career. It has been a career of ups and downs, both professionally and emotionally. Happy to say he’s come out on top as an actor and businessman. He’s been happily married to Sheryl for 20 years and is the proud father of two sons.
In between the happy ending there was a romance with Princess Stephanie and the murder of a friend, a bout with alcoholism and stays in rehab. His reminicences about such luminaries as Andy Warhol, Demi Moore, President Clinton, Jodie Foster, Jane Fonda and others are priceless.
Many of us may remember him primarily for his iconic role on “The West Wing,” but after reading his book we’re sure there’s a great deal more to come.
STORIES I ONLY TELL MY FRIENDS is a not-to-miss celeb bio.
