Robert Redford Then and Now
An experienced stage, television and film actor Mark Deakins has given voice to a number of audio books as well as video games. Versatile? Yes. His tone in this bio of Robert Redford is conversational, very pleasant - an easy listen.
Author Michael Feeney Callan is well versed in the area of celeb bios having covered Anthony Hopkins, Richard Harris, Julie Christie, and Sean Connery. So glad Callan added Robert Redford to this iconic list as he has always been one of my favorites. A little bias here? I admit it.
Don't expect any gasp producing tell-all revelations in this book as Callan offers a straight forward account of the actor's life to date beginning, of course, at the beginning. Born in California Redford didn't following his oil exec father's footsteps but rather left college for Paris where he planned to paint. Next, he enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Did he need their tutelage? Not a bit of it after he was seen on Broadway in Neil Simon's "Barefoot In The Park."
It's not necessary to cite his successes in films - who could forget the dreamy romance of "The Way We Were"? Or the teaming of Redford with Paul Newman in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" as well as "The Sting"? Eye candy for millions.
From starring in films he turned to directing and involvement in environmental issues. Undoubtedly, there's still more to come from the Sundance Kid - meanwhile enjoy this comprehensive bio.
