A Book To Dream On
If you missed seeing the Bergdorf Goodman windows that held a parade of shots from Glenda Bailey’s book, not to worry - enjoy this luxe volume rich with over 300 images that editor in chief Bailey considers the magazine’s “epic moments.” Epic they are - imaginative, unforgettable, irreplaceable such as Marc Jacobs posing in painted Louis Vuitton logos, Naomi Campbell racing with a cheetah, the vaunted 2010 cover that Demi Moore shares with a giraffe, and so much more.
Displayed in a generous 320 page 10" by 13" volume these iconic images seem to leap from the pages. A great deal of the pleasure for this reader was being able to return again and again to a picture and each time catching details that had been missed before. One is struck by the skills of photographers such as Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindbergh, David Sims, and Mario Sorrenti, and admittedly covetous of the gorgeous designs by Tom Ford, Alexander McQueen, Miuccia Prada, and more.
Harper’s Bazaar: Greatest Hits is also a chronology of celebrities (my favorite being Julianne Moore), and outstanding writers who have contributed to the magazine, such as Candace Bushnell and Carrie Fisher. It is, of course, an elegant art book and perhaps most importantly for most of us it’s a book to dream on.
