Too Many Dinosaurs by Mercer Mayer
Kids have always enjoyed the humor and imagination of author/illustrator Mercer Mayer - he’s in top form once again with Too Many Dinosaurs.
It’s accepted that almost every little boy wants a dog, and that’s certainly true of our unnamed young hero who asks his mom for a puppy. Her answer is a clear no followed by instructions to go outside.
As he’s walking along he sees that Mr. Jerry is having a garage sale - anyone would be hard pressed to guess what the boy found - a dinosaur egg. Mr. Jerry assured him that it was real, so the boy paid a dollar for the egg and took it home.
Just where do you put a dinosaur egg? Well, his toy box seemed like a good idea - that is until the egg hatched and out popped a baby triceratops. That’s a pretty big baby who can create chaos quickly. What’s to be done?
Young readers will laugh at what the boy has to go through in trying to restore equilibrium to his house and city. They’ll also by charmed by Mayer’s slightly wacky illustrations.
Magic and mayhem are an entertaining combination in the hands of Mercer Mayer.
