Historic Homes of Jefferson, Texas

We feel fortunate to live in Texas for many reasons, and one of them is having the opportunity to visit Jefferson several times.  It’s a delightful town, a bit like taking a step back in time to a quiet, peaceful place.  Whether you’ve been to Jefferson, are planning to go, or wish you could Historic Homes of Jefferson is a marvelous keepsake book.

Author MacLennan thoughtfully begins with a history of the town, reminding us that it is near the Big Cypress Bayou and once “served as the primary shipping point for cotton and was one of the largest mercantile cities in the state.”  At one time boasting a population of 7,297 the city is smaller now but quite charming thanks to those who recognized and preserved historic structures.

Dividing her book into two sections MacLennan first focuses on Homes from 1850-1860 and then Homes from 1870-1890.  Concluding pages show additional homes, interiors, buildings, and landmarks.  The stunning photographs are both archival and contemporary.

With only 111 pages Historic Homes of Jefferson, Texas is a small gem of a book.

    Enjoy!
