HOUSE BLOOD by Mike Lawson

Someone wrote of Mike Lawson’s stories, “Lawson has honed his skill to write a perfect political thriller - fast-moving, cynical, but ultimately moral.”  So true, and wish I’d said it first.  In addition Lawson has created a likable, admirable and, yes, fun, lead character with Joe DeMarco.  House Blood is Joe’s seventh time to keep us spellbound and I couldn’t be happier.

Lawson’s latest has all the components of a stay-up-late read.   Pharmaceutical kingpin, Orson Mulray, has discovered what is likely to be a drug that could cure millions of a hitherto incurable diseases and along the way make Mulray mega dollars.  One small problem - the drug needs to be tested on humans.

He finds the perfect pigeon in Lizzie Warwick, a humanitarian who assists war victims and those caught in natural disasters.  What better guinea pigs could Mulray find?  But when Warwick’s Washington lobbyist discovers what Mulray is  doing the lobbyist meets an untimely end and the ever resourceful Mulray frames Brian Kincaid for murder.

Two years pass and Joe DeMarco is asked to take another look at the case and perhaps free Kincaid.  What some people won’t do for billions of dollars!  DeMarco soon finds himself hunted by two of the most merciless killers on our planet.

House Blood is a prime political thriller - enjoy!
