THERE WAS AN OLD WOMAN WHO LIVED IN A SHOE by Jane Cabrera

There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a ShoeEver thoughtful and entertaining Jane Cabrera has taken a favorite nursery rhyme and created a surprising happy version of it that emphasizes resourcefulness and above all the warmth of a mother’s love.

Now, this wise old woman not only has a slew of children but some animals, too.  When the young ones were hungry she made them a stew of vegetables and coconut, when the car broke down they rode a gnu, when clothes were beginning to look tacky she mended them with bright patches that the little ones were proud to wear.  After each endeavor she kisses each one lovingly - again a reminder of a mother’s love and care.

Cabrera’s illustration are boldly done in bright, happy colors in this gem of a book that reminds us of how a creative family can reuse, repair, recycle and have fun doing it.  A wonderful lesson for youngsters to learn!
