THE PRINCESS DIARIST by Carrie Fisher Audio Edition

Princess Leia (aka Carrie Fisher) tells all and more in this story of her unlikely life to date.  The daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher became an iconic figure when she starred as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy.  She’s been up and she’s been down while through it all she has retained her luscious and sometimes wicked sensse of humor, her honesty, and her willingness to look the world and her life in the eye.  This series of autobiographical essays may raise a few eyebrows but it will also win her even more fans and friends.

Of primary interest to some may be her candid description of what happened on one of the most famous film sets of all time and what went on between scenes - yes, she did have a three month affair with Harrison Ford, her love interest in the Star Wars movie.  At the time she was 19 and Ford was in his early 30s, married and the father of two young children.  She refers to their relationship as “a very long one-night stand.”) Having waited some 40 years to admit to this she may well have thought that was long enough.

Whatever the case, there is so much more in Fisher’s life and her straight-from-the heart comments are stellar.  When asked what the best things were about her success she replied, “Money, travel and the people you meet.”  When asked what was the worst thing about her success she replied, “Money, travel and the people you meet.”  There’s that sense of humor again!  It’s a wit that she almost seems to use as a shield against anything harmful.   What are the rules she lives by?  Being kind and being truthful.   She talks about LSD and death,  remembers a trip to the desert with Paul Simon when it appears they were both strung out and her coat caught fire.   She recalls it as they had a lot of “fun on acid, mushroom and that stuff.”  Re her difficulty with drugs she says “...it takes a lot of lessons for some of us to get it right.”

Carrie Fisher is an utterly truthful memorist and a survivor.  There is much to enjoy and much to be learned from The Princess Diarist - listen to her story and be glad for her when she is happy and during the dark times listen carefully and learn.
